OUR STUDENTS ARE INVOLVED & ACTIVE

Our students have the option to participate in a variety of activities inside and outside of the classroom. View additional information regarding athletics, Extended Care, major events, and lunch below.

ATHLETICS

The Immanuel Lutheran School Athletics Program offers the sports listed below for students from 3rd through 8th grade. Opportunities to participate in cross country and cheerleading are offered when available. Contact our Athletic Director for more information at: dschroeder@immanuelplainview.org

An athletic fee of $20 per student ($40 cap per family) will be charged for each sport.

Cross Country Meets are available to ILS students; however, it is up to individual families to transport them.

EXTENDED SCHOOL CARE

Immanuel Extended Care is intended for children whose parents need care for their children before and/or after school. This care is offered to Immanuel Lutheran children grades kindergarten through 8th grade for both before and after school care. Additionally, Preschool students may attend Immanuel's before school extended care program. 

ACTIVITIES

The Extended Care program provides several developmentally appropriate activities. Children are able to choose from the activities provided. Activities include:

  • Games

  • Toys / Puzzles

  • Art / Media center

  • Reading area

  • Religious concepts

  • Homework area

  • Dramatic play

  • Building centers

  • Science concepts

  • Indoor / Outdoor play

SCHEDULE

Extended care is available Monday through Friday.

  • Before school 6:00am - 7:55am

  • After School 3:00pm – 6:00pm

FEES

  • Registration Fee: $35.00 per family

  • Extended Care Rate: $5.00 per hour per child

REGISTRATION & QUESTIONS

Parents are encouraged to register their children during school registration. Drop-in care can be accommodated as space permits.

Events

FIELD TRIPS

Grades: Kindergarten – 8th Grade

Date / Frequency: Typically late September or early October
 

Description: Every year we take an all-school field trip rotating between the Minnesota Zoo or Science Museum. We travel by bus leaving from school; sack lunch is provided.

SPELLING BEE

Grades: 3rd – 8th Grade

Date / Frequency: End of April (cancelled for 2021)
 

Description: Two students from 3rd–8th Grade will be chosen to represent ILS in the annual SE MN Spelling Bee. They will compete against other Lutheran schools in both written and oral tests.

ROBOTICS

Grades: 6th – 8th Grade

Date / Frequency: Fall
 

Description: Students in 6th–8th Grade participate in a nine week Lego robotics course where they develop programming knowledge, utilize problem solving skills, develop abstract thinking abilities, and learn advantages of labor along with effective communication. At the end of this course, they take their skills and compete against other schools in long and short term events at the annual IBM Robotics Outreach competition.

TRACK & FIELD

Description: Every year, our school competes against other Lutheran schools in an annual track and field meet hosted by St. Martin’s Lutheran School in Winona, MN. Events include running long jump, standing long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot put, softball throw and numerous running events.

NATIONAL LUTHERAN SCHOOLS WEEK

Grades: All-School

Date / Frequency: Typically the last week of January
 

Description: National Lutheran Schools Week (NLSW) provides the opportunity to proclaim and celebrate God’s work among us in schools of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. NLSW gives us an opportunity to proclaim our great blessings within the communities we serve. 

CARLEY DAY

Grades: All-School

Date / Frequency: End of May
 

Description: It has been a long-standing tradition at ILS to take an all-school trip to Carley State Park for a day of hiking and activities with a picnic lunch.

WEEKLY CHAPEL

Grades: Kindergarten – 8th Grade

Date / Frequency: Wednesday mornings @ 8:20am
 

Description: Students in Kindergarten through 8th Grade attend Chapel every Wednesday morning. Chapel is typically led by Pastor Augustine or Mr. Arguto, but each classroom also has the opportunity to lead. The public is welcome and encouraged to join us for weekly Chapel Services. Each quarter, a different mission is chosen to donate our chapel offerings too.

GRANDPARENTS DAY

Grades: All-School

Date / Frequency: Friday morning of National Lutheran Schools Week
 

Description: Grandparents Day is an opportunity to share our school with our grandparents and/or special friends. We invite our visitors to join us in the morning for different activities, then stay for lunch. (Lunch is $3.50 per adult.)

LESSONS IN CAROLS

Grades: All-School + Immanuel Lutheran Church Choir

Date / Frequency: Early December
 

Description: The choirs of Immanuel Lutheran Church & School proclaim the joy of the season in remembering the birth of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Come and join us to hear the good news proclaimed in word and song!

SPRING CONCERT

Grades: All-School

Date / Frequency: Spring
 

Description: The choirs of ILS put together an ensemble of pieces to showcase their talents for friends and families.

COOK'S CORNER

Immanuel Lutheran School provides a well-balanced lunch on-site. Each meal costs $2.90. Seconds are $0.25 when available. Extra milk is also available for $0.35.
